The Story Beneath Your Feet
Every Rug Has a Story, Every Thread Has a Voice
There I go again, following another thread of discovery! Have you ever looked down at a beautiful rug and wondered whose hands wove it, where those wonderful colors came from, or what secrets might be hiding in its patterns?
After more than 25 years of exploring handmade rugs, textiles, colors, and cultures, I have come to realize that what lies beneath our feet often far is more fascinating that what hangs on our walls. My newest book concept, "The Story Beneath Your Feet" takes us on a journey through distant villages, ancient weaving traditions and the lives of people who have expressed their hopes, beliefs, and everyday experiences through threads of wool, silk and cotton.
Sometimes the colors tell the story; sometimes it's a back memory I had nearly forgotten. As I gather these discoveries for my book, I'll be sharing some of the stories here on Designer Tastes. A few may surpise you, others might change the way you look at that old rug in your living room. Many will eventually become part of the book. And knowing me, one story will lead to another because there's always something more to discover when we look a little closer at the story beneath our feet.
